In Eseul sau "Sculpture in the Expanded Field " din 1979 Rosalind Krauss vorbea despre logica sculpturii care e inseparabila de logica monumentului. Prin prisma acestei conexiuni sculptura este o reprezentare comemorativa . Sta intr-un loc anume si vorbeste intr-o limba simbolica despre sensul si utilizarea acelui spatiu.

Seria de interventii propuse de Alexandra Pirici grupului de performeri care graviteaza in jurul Centrului National al Dansului chestioneaza chiar acest mod de a folosi spatiu public prin care i se traseaza o "proiectie iluzorie a unui trecut glorios care nu mai are nici o legatura cu prezentul" . Prin interventiile sale paraziteaza acest spatiu proxim monumentelor din Bucuresti si creaza un interval al ambiguitatii care ne face sa ne intrebam in ce masura aceste spatii mai sunt publice sau doar un camp de lupta al semnelor si semnificatiilor ideologice.

In this work the movement of a large video monitor mounted on an industrial fork-lift truck creates a virtual representation of a larger than life size ballerina. As the forklift moves the monitor up and down the ballerina is presented from head to toe, and as the forklift truck rotates the ballerina also appears to turn. In this way the monitor functions as a window that gradually reveals the virtual presence of the ballerina who is dancing in the same axis as the rotating forklift truck.

Also visible inside the motor compartment of the forklift truck is a small rotating ballerina figurine in front of which a video camera moves up and down. This mechanism is electronically synchronised with the movement of the forklift itself and provides the closed circuit source for the video image of the ballerina that is seen on the monitor screen.

Disappearance evokes and celebrates the memory of the ballerina on a music box (a first generation robot) and generates her virtual reconstruction to the extent that the machinery of reproduction itself now incarnates her pirouettes.

UPsidedown - a case study and a pilot proposal for a block in Balta Albă

Built in the 1960s, Balta Alba is a huge and typical modernist neighborhood from Bucharest: slabs, generous greenery, medium density, and a balanced architectural quality. There is a strong demand for urban functions, an opportunity for free commercial initiative and a good population mix that give it a potential for rehabilitation operations.

Our proposal focuses on some big buildings located on the main streets. Their ground floors are still inhabited, which is not very comfortable for the tenants and quite unpractical when it comes to using the spaces in front of these blocks.

Upside down deals with building of some new apartments over the top floor; they would offer better standard and larger areas to the tenants of the ground floor. Thus, once the ground floor is freed, it could be taken by the city hall and rented to various services.

If the rent and taxes from the commercial agents working in such spaces go entirely to the city hall that initiates the project, then the tenant association could negotiate a smaller percentage for their contribution to the building maintenance and for parking. We think that such constant income could go back to the association through coherent rehabilitation programs that would include passive protection elements (shutters, shading) or sun panels.
This operation would be extremely advantageous for the tenants, ease the traffic, help social cohesion, and finally, it would give a new urban identity to the zone.

A comprehensive, coherent project is needed, that should be coordinated by an agency that would ensure transparent communication with the tenant association should be created and negotiate the tenants interest with local authorities.

She will talk about the background, basic concepts and genres of live visuals, present a showcase of works and give a general introduction to software. She will also talk about her own works and the ideas and techniques behind them.

Mia Makela (SOLU) is finnish media+live cinema artist,teacher, investigator and curator residing in Berlin.
Her trajectory has led her from shamanistic studies to art. From art to media art and design. From media art to organization of events and workshops on contemporary digital culture. As part of fiftyfifty.org collective (until 2002), she organized Hacker Techniques workshops, Gameboy Sound Lab and Playtime event amongst other activities.
She started performing visuals in 2001 as SOLU at festivals around the world: SONIC ACTS (Amsterdam), SONAR (Barcelona), TRANSMEDIALE (Berlin), ZAGREB BIENNALE OF MUSIC, CIMATICS (Brussels), AVIT (Birmingham), MAPPING (Geneve), TRANSIT_MX (Mexico City), Live Cinema Nights (San Jose), Pixelache (Helsinki), ARS ELECTRONICA (Linz), BYTEME (Perth), MONKEY TOWN (NYC), ROXY BAR & SCREEN (London), STATE OF IMAGE (Arnhem), FESTIVAL POMLADI (Ljubljana), LARM (Stockholm) .
She has collaborated with many experimental musicians including ARBOL, Heidi Mortenson, Dj Rupture and worked with theaters (Conservas, Dani Panullo Dance theater).
Her work has been described as "A dark delirium of images, a disintegrated vision on a complex world - a digital version of William Blake's poetry". Her style ranges from minimal abstractions to multilayered compositions following a dreamlike narrative journey. She processes her visual material with MAX/MSP/JITTER, Isadora and Modul8. She has given lectures and written articles on various themes including live cinema, VJng, robots, audiovisual and digital culture and tactical sound.
In 2006 she published her thesis on LIVE CINEMA language and elements, (Media laboratory, Helsinki) which gathers her experience on real-time visuals. The following year she edited widely distributed special issue on LIVE CINEMA for a:minima magazine/ book. Her latest workshop titled ”Audiovisual Real- time Creation” took place in Spain, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Finland and Mexico.

In peregrinarile mele imebedistice am dat peste un titlu care foarte tentat. " Made in Romania". Fiindca nu prea stiu prea multe despre acest proiect in lucru, voi cita ce am gasit pe siteul mai sus mentionat. Stiu doar ca o sa joace in rolurile principale Jeniffer Tilly si Elizabeth Hurley.

"Made In Romania" is the story of a producer who is given the chance to realize his dream project; to film an adaptation of an obscure, beautifully written Victorian novel, "The Tides of Reason". Disillusioned after years of making low budget genre films, the producer readily accepts the demands of his less than legitimate financiers. Namely, the production be filmed entirely in Romania to take advantage of a complicated and slightly suspicious tax deal. Designerul grafic Hans Weishäupl a reconstruit portretele a 13 dictatori in expozitia sa Faces of Evil. Fotografiile sunt niste portrete robot. Hans W. a fotografiat 350 de oameni din tarile unde condus aceste personaje, apoi a asamblat acele trasaturi care au ceva din chipul dictatorilor. Au iesit niste portrete hiperealiste . Unul dintre cei 13 dictatori e Ceausescu. Mie sincer nu mi se pare ca seamana.Sunt 350 de romani ascunsi in aceasta fotografie.

Oare care e Ceausescu? dintre cele patru portrete :)

Hunger

Am vazut Hunger, de departe cel mai bun film de pe anul asta. E despre ce se intampla dincolo de cortina de fier, in Irlanda sub Margaret Thatcher. In 1981 Bobby Sands impreuna cu alti luptatori IRA au fost incarcerati . Fiindca li s-a refuzat statutul de prizonieri politici, au refuzat sa imbrace hainele de detinuti si apoi au inceput greva foamei.

Steve McQueen e la primul film de cinema. Pana acum a facut mai mult arta video , motiv pentru care a primit primit Turner Prize in 1999.Mi-a placut ce a zis Steve McQueen intr-un interviu:

"I want the screen, in effect, to be a massive mirror. When you're looking at that, you are really looking at yourself - and sometimes you may not always like what you see. "

E ceva uimitor la filmul asta. Daca actorii ar fi vorbit romaneste as fi spus ca lucrurile s-au intamplat la noi, in perioada comunista. Acelasi gen de ura indreptata spre Celalalt care intre timp a devenit dusman si trebuie desfintat, distrus, desfigurat.

Hunger nu e un film obisnuit. Mai putin il intereseaza pe McQueen latura politica din toata aceasta poveste . A pus accentul pe aceea linie fragila ca separa umanul de bestialitate ( am vrut sa spun prima data animalitate dar cred des folosim cuvantul asta incorect). A iesit un film nepartnitor despre cum niste oameni ii trateaza pe alti oameni. Punct

Ursula Bogner

Jan Jelinek , unul din muzicienii mei favoriti are un nou label: Faitiche. Primul nume promovat este Ursula Bogner, o farmacista care in timpul liber se juca dea muzica electronica. Asta se intampla prin anii '70-'80.

Ce a iesit poate fi ascultat pe Faitiche. Unele piese ascultate cu urechea de acum ma uimesc prin vizionarismul lor.

Showcase Raster Noton

Tocmai mi-a soptit o pasarica cum ca in viitorul foarte apropiat sunt sanse foarte mari sa avem un Showcase Raster Noton la Bucuresti. Va veni pe la noi supergrupul Signal din care fac parte Carsten Nicolai aka Alva Noto + Frank Bretschneider + Olaf Bender (Byetone).

Din cate imi amintesc Carsten Nicolai a avut un dj-set la un eveniment organizat de Institul Cultural Roman care a avut loc, din pacate pentru noi, la Roma.

Trei filme mi-au placut in ultima vreme ( cand spun asta ma refer la ultimele luni)

The Savages de Tamara Jenkins mi s-a parut foarte Jonathan Franzen, cu Philip Seymour Hoffman despre un frate si sora ajunsi la 40 de ani care trebuie sa aiba grije de tatal lor dement.

Mondovino - am citit mult despre docmentarul asta dar de abia acum l-am vazut. E despre vin si despre cum media influenteaza gusturile oamenilor. Un singur om, mister Parker a reusit sa influenteze intreaga industrie viticola si pe consumatorii de vinuri in asa masura incat sa creat
"o dictatura a gustului"

Mister Lonely - l-am asteptat foarte mult. E diferit de tot ce a facut pana acm Harmony Korine. Un film despre tristetea sosiilor. Diego Luna este aici copia lui Michael Jackson si Samantha Morton e o Marlyn Monroe.

Ultimul album care il ascult in loop in ultima vreme este "Cold Fact" proaspat reeedidatul album al lui Sixto Rodriguez care in anii '70 a scos trei albume dar nici unul nu a avut un mare succes la vremea lui. A venit timpul sa fie scos de la naftalina pentru ca noi sa ne bucuram de el. Muzica lui e intre Bob Dylan si Charles Manson ( cremenalul nu a facut multa muzica dar ce a realizat suna foarte bine).

Alvin Lucier - I Am Sitting in a Room

In 1970 Alvin Lucier a inregistrat " I Am Sitting in a Room ". Sunt intr-o camera diferita de cea in care stai tu acum e prima propozitie pe care o citeste Lucier dintr-un text care va fi play-at apoi inregistrat din nou pana cand sensul va fi distrus poate cu exceptia ritmului.

Uneori ceea ce ramane in urma e doar pulsatia nimic altceva.

Textul in original este:

"I am sitting in a room different from the one you are in now. I am recording the sound of my speaking voice and I am going to play it back into the room again and again until the resonant frequencies of the room reinforce themselves so that any semblance of my speech, with perhaps the exception of rhythm, is destroyed. What you will hear, then, are the natural resonant frequencies of the room articulated by speech. I regard this activity not so much as a demonstration of a physical fact, but more as a way to smooth out any irregularities my speech might have."
